Door Dictionary
We understand that when we state facts such as our doors have a unique monocoque structure or are double-rebated as standard, it becomes very difficult to understand what these terms exactly mean.
Which is why we have compiled this door dictionary for you!
What does it mean by a monocoque structure?
Palladio doors have a 65mm reinforced fibreglass monocoque structure that refers to a door’s external appearance and structure. This structure gives a massive strength-to-weight ratio and is European patent-protected. The finish of the doors resembles real wood because all Palladio doors start their life as a real oak timber door. The grain from the original oak door is lifted using a gel mould and this detail is then transferred onto a Palladio door to ensure all the doors have the most natural grain finish. The unique construction of these doors means that Palladio doors don’t delaminate.
What is double-rebated?
Doors that are rebated are interlocked at the edge and the frame. Double-rebated refers to being double-sealed with one seal making external contact with the outside of the door and the other making contact on the inside. Thicker than single-rebated doors, double-rebated Palladio doors offer excellent draught-proofing and are resistant to almost any weather.
What is triple-glazed?
As the name suggests, tripled-glazed glass have three panes of glass. There is a gap filled with insulated air between each pane of glass. Very efficient to keep the warmth in, this arrangement allows the sunlight to pass through the panes but prevents the heat from escaping. During summers, the cool air is retained inside which means it’s a win-win situation. Palladio doors come with matching sidelights- most other door manufacturers do not have any sidelight glass available.
What is U-value?
U-value refers to the total layers of thermal resistance. U-values can tell how quickly sunlight can pass through the glass keeping the heat in. A low value means better insulation.
What is a renolit foil-finish?
Palladio doors come with a foil finish called renolit. The colour of the door exact-matches the colour of the exterior frame. These doors have a true colour as they are not painted. This means the colour will never fade and you wouldn’t ever have to worry about painting a Palladio door.
How are Palladio doors energy-efficient?
Every single Palladio door starts its life as a real oak timber door in our factories. We are so confident of our doors that we offer a 12-year manufacturing guarantee on the doors, possibly unlike anyone else in the market. Palladio doors are double-rebated and triple-glazed as standard. These doors prevent the heat from escaping which means you save immensely on energy bills. Palladio doors do not fade, warp, crack or rust and are draught-proof which means they are resistant to all weather.
What does it mean by PAS 23/24 tested?
PAS is a minimum British standard required to assess door strength. Under the PAS 23/ 24 testing, every single Palladio door is rigorously tested to ensure wind and water tightness alongside a number of other tests.
Please note that PAS 23 is now replaced with BS6375.
What are the RAL numbers?
Will Palladio doors keep the draughts out?
You can see it for yourself. The clip below was sent to us by one of our customers. Our door was featured and tested for draught-proofing on ‘Country Lives’ that ran on BBC.
Explain the locking mechanism.
Palladio doors are highly secure and come with a Milenco 10-point multi-locking system and 4 adjustable bespoke hinges. We also offer a 5-point Heritage slam lock which engages as soon as the door closes.
