When we published the original article in May two years ago, we were full of advice on how to refresh your home for the much-awaited ‘normal’ summer where you were welcome to host parties and BBQs in your backyard sans restrictions.
Fast forward to May 2024, where surely loads of things have happened in everyone’s lives- people have bought houses, or renovated their spaces, or are earnestly saving and looking forward to making their mark on the property ladder, each at their own pace.
Allow us to present this question again albeit with a twist: Is your home exterior ready for a summer refresh and beyond?
We have to bear in mind to do changes that would not only be viable for the rest of the summer but also get your home autumn-ready. Two birds with one stone?
Summer wreath: One of the first door decor trends that come to the mind is getting a lovely door wreath. Who said wreaths have to appear on your front door only when festivity kicks in? Summer wreaths have now increasingly charmed their way in.
While flowers and dried leaves make up for most wreath styles, you could indulge in fruits to bring in some freshness. Pets are such an important part of our lives now that most companies cater to animal-friendly wreaths made from small fruits and non-toxic substances. Think local, organic, artisan?
Or it may be no harm letting your Easter wreath with the cute bunny hang in on the door for a while more. You don’t need it to be Easter to see the bunnies, do you?
We advise caution while hanging wreaths and other door decor.
Clever lighting: You could brighten up your porch or the driveway with some smart LED lights and won’t be much of a hassle to your pockets. You don’t have to get a huge pendant or a chandelier for your porch; you could simply make a statement with some clever solar-powered lights. Make hay while the sun shines?
Gardening: While this is not a door trend exactly, your front door could benefit if you could place a few potted plants in the corners of the porch or your driveway.
Unleash your green thumb to its fullest by giving your backyard a much-needed mow every once in a while and plant some flowers, herbs or take it a notch further with some vegetable/ fruit pots. After all, the rear entrance should also be borne in mind when it comes to redecorating the house.
Refresh your door: We come across many homeowners who paint their current front doors either because it has faded over time or to resonate with the season’s offerings. While painting sounds great, trust us when we say that the paint will fade over time.
One of the greatest things about our doors is that they come with a renolit foil finish, which means gone are your worries of the door fading or ever having to paint it again!
Or if you really want to unleash the Picasso within you, go all out and paint the exterior walls or the gate of your house to something that you’ve always wanted to experiment with.
