About Glin

Glin is a buzzing touristy village with a variety of choices to stay, eat and drink at, few of which have been award-winning. Besides, there is a library, a community playground, and visitors can make the most of their stay by going on heritage trails and other exciting walks.

Elevated townlands in the parish offer scenic views of the Shannon estuary and beyond- Locally called the ‘Scenic Route’, it runs along the top of the hill that affords views of Clare to the north, Kerry to the west, Tipperary to the east and Cork to the south.

In 2009, the strong community spirit was nationally acknowledged when Glin was the proud winner of All Ireland Pride of Place.

Glin Castle, home of the Fitzgerald family and seat of the hereditary Knights of Glin, stands proudly in the middle of its 400 acre wooded demesne on the banks of the Shannon and is the gateway to the south-west of Ireland and the famous Wild Atlantic Way.

Catherine Fitzgerald, daughter of the last Knight of Glin, and her husband actor Dominic West, have rescued her family home, Glin Castle from being sold, along with her sisters. It has attracted visits from many famous icons, including the singer/ songwriter Taylor Swift who has been spotted enjoying a drink at the local pub, O’Shaughnessy’s.
